After a short break for work and our daughter’s wedding, Stage 2 of our odyssey is to sail from Lagos to Tenerife, via Morocco. Although the path to the Canaries is well trodden, it is classified as beyond mainland Europe for insurance, (with a significant hike in premium cost) which starts to bring home the reality of our journey.
Sailing to Portugal was a real joy. The apprehension about crossing Biscay was thankfully not borne out, and we determined that we were happy sailing two-handed. Portugal was an unexpected delight. The people were universally welcoming, the food and wine were very affordable. The visits to Porto and Lisbon left one wanting to return, and leaving the boat was tough. Fortunately time moves on, and so onto the next Stage.
